Last year, instead of the letter to Santa Claus, a group of children had sent a request for a cleaner environment to the Mayor of their city, Ferrara. The letter was the result of the GIOCONDA Theater Laboratory, then brought to the scene by fourth-grade children of A. Manzoni primary school (now all in fifth!) in the halls of the City Hall of Ferrara.
Thanks to their commitment and to the project team, their recommendations were published on the New Ferrara.
Result: the Counselor for the Environment hung the letter in his study and the next day the Mayor replied in an article titled “Thank you for your suggestions you did a good work”:
Dear children, I have read your letter carefully and I can only agree with all your suggestions … It is important that you talk about these topics in your family, especially because the environment and health are closely linked. As a dad I know how much a child’s opinion counts, and for this reason I trust that there will be a day when this list will no longer be necessary because we will have achieved all or almost all, the goals that your letter contains. I thank you again for the work you do with your teachers every day to look for ideas and suggestions to improve the environment and our city. For me, this is the confirmation of the good education you receive in our school, who teaches you to take care of what is around you, I embrace you, your Mayor Tiziano.
